Purpose of the Study:
The purpose of this research is to examine the relationship between job satisfaction and organizational commitment, with work experience as a mediating factor. By exploring this relationship, the study seeks to shed light on the importance of job satisfaction in enhancing employees' commitment to the organization. The research draws on several theories, including the theory of job satisfaction, Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs theory, Herzberg's Two-Factor theory, and Locke's Range of Affect Theory, to provide a comprehensive understanding.
Methods Used:
The study adopts an explanatory research design and employs a structured questionnaire as the primary data collection tool. A sample of 144 employees was selected out of a total of 230 employees in the Awutu Senya East Municipal Assembly. This quantitative approach allows for a thorough analysis of the effect of job satisfaction on organizational commitment, considering the mediating role of work experience.
Results and Conclusions:
The findings of the study indicate that the most influential factor contributing to employees' job satisfaction in the Awutu Senya East Municipal Assembly is their relationship with co-workers. Additionally, the study reveals that employees' relationship with management has a positive and significant effect on their normative and continuance commitment to the organization. This suggests that an increase in job satisfaction leads to a corresponding increase in organizational commitment, with work experience partially mediating this relationship.
Implications:
The results of this study have important implications for organizations, emphasizing the significance of job satisfaction in fostering employee commitment. Building positive relationships between employees and their co-workers and management can enhance job satisfaction and subsequently increase organizational commitment. Organizations should strive to create a supportive work environment that values relationships and promotes job satisfaction, ultimately leading to higher levels of commitment. By understanding the mediating role of work experience, organizations can further tailor strategies to enhance job satisfaction and organizational commitment.
